Good Bird Magazine focuses on positive reinforcement training with companion parrots. While we do seek writers to contribute, we do limit our behavior articles to those who take a behavior analysis approach with an emphasis on positive reinforcement training.

• How did they train that? - Step by step instructions on how to train a specific behavior.
• What is the Methodology? – Determine the difference between positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement and punishment by examining real life examples.
Other articles we seek that do not require a background in applied behavior include the following areas of interest:
• Your Good Bird! Reader Success Stories- Tell us how positive reinforcement training changed you and your bird’s life.
• Out of the Mouths of Parrots-funny real life stories about parrot saying the right words at the right time.
• Nutrition News –The latest information on healthy eating for companion parrots.
• Conservation updates- The latest news on parrots in the wild and how readers can help.
• Take Flight! Travel and Leisure for the parrot enthusiast- Reviews of places parrot people might like to visit such as zoological parks, eco tourism, natural history museum, art shows and more.
• Veterinary updates- The latest developments in avian veterinary medicine, often with a behavioral focus.
• Conference or Event review-Overview of recent gatherings that might interest companion parrot owners or behavior enthusiasts.
• Beak to Beak - Interview with experts in the field, celebrity parrot owners, etc.
Other submissions will be considered on a case by case basis. Good Bird Inc. reserves the right to decline to accept any article for publication. While we want the articles to reflect the experience and opinions of the author, articles will be edited if necessary to maintain the overall goals and mission of Good Bird Magazine. Please reference reliable resources when researching your article.

Submission Guidelines:
If you are interested in writing an article for Good Bird Magazine, Please begin by contacting Good Bird, Inc. Include a short summary of the intended article and also a short biographical sketch about the author.

Length of articles: In general we would like our primary feature articles to be about 2000-3000 words. Smaller articles such as a conference review or personal success stories can range from 800-1500 words. However exact word count is not critical to us.
Format: It is preferred if articles can be emailed as an attachment in Microsoft Word. Documents can also be snail mailed on CD.
Photos: Photos are welcomed and encouraged. Digital photos must have 300 dpi at a 5in X 7in size. Please send digital photos in a JPG or TFF format. Original photos can be scanned and returned to owner upon request. Please include a self addressed stamped envelope if you would like your photos returned.

Publication Rights :
Good Bird, Inc retains exclusive publications rights for 4 months after it has published an article, photo or artwork After 4 months Good Bird, Inc retains non-exclusive publication rights, including the right to publish and republish your story, photo or artwork; to create derivative works; to use, adapt, modify, perform, transmit or reproduce the story and derivatives there from in any form or medium, whether now or hereafter, throughout the world, including, without limitation, compilation, microfilm, electronic or other databases, and any digital format in any medium. Four months after publication you retain the right to re-use your story, photos and artwork. However it is requested that in each subsequent publication, the article, photo or artwork be accompanied by words “Reprinted with Permission from Good Bird Magazine” with a link back to www.goodbirdinc.com.
